About

Butterfly and Rhino was created by two performance combat professionals, and actors who are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in their craft and have a deep desire to spread the love and respect for stage combat across the industry. Seeing a need for stage combat and screen fighting arts in Kingston, and the wider area, they decided to bring their years of experience teaching, and performing across the nation, home. Our mission is to help artists create, and perform powerful, believable stories, and to teach stage combat to the highest possible standard.

Tammy Everett is a certified Fight Instructor with FDC. She is a singer, actor, actor-combatant and martial artist who has performed in Canada, the USA, and Europe working in theatre, music theatre, film, television, and recording studios. Her work as a martial arts instructor has fostered a strong understanding of the body, and a passion for helping students grow safely past their original expectations of their physical abilities, while her work on trauma and the actor roots her practices firmly in creating spaces where actors can explore their characters, and the work safely mentally and emotionally, as well as physically.

“We must always be aware of the instructor’s duty of care to their students.”

Fight Director credits include Shadowed (Galant Productions), Don Giovanni (Highlands Opera Studio), Cabaret (RCPA), White Elephant (Jaded Pictures), Love and Anger (Durham Shoestring Performers), City of Angels (RCPA), Les Miserables (Marquee Productions), August: Osage County (Whitby Courthouse Theatre).

What People Say

Tammy Everett is a stellar teacher. Her skills, empathy, and creativity always captivate her class. I am proud that she has spent so much time with us at Rapier Wit. She is one of the first people I think of when I am asked to suggest a fight teacher or director.

Daniel Levinson – Owner, Rapier Wit

Your patience, humour, care and dedication was enormously helpful. Thank you for your knowledge, your kindness and your joy. It has been an absolute pleasure.

Meg – Intermediate Stage Combat Student

Kevin Robinson was incredible to work with as a fight director. Whether throwing myself to the ground, fighting my own hand or getting beaten up by a half dozen bloody zombies Kevin always made me feel safe, knowledgeable and seriously cool!

Trent Mills – Ash, Evil Dead: The Musical
